ITINERARY

map

You will be transferred from Galway, Westport or Knock Airport to your first night’s accommodation at the Delphi Resort, a unique four-star hotel designed to blend into the backdrop of the scenically breathtaking Delphi Valley in which it is located. The immediacy of the steep mountain sides dropping down into the lake and river creates a sense of being cocooned by nature. Enjoy your quietly opulent surroundings or treat yourself to a relaxing evening at the award-winning Spa. All bikes and equipment will be waiting for you at your accommodation, giving you the chance to try them and make sure everything fits perfectly before your adventure begins the next day!

After breakfast, you will begin the first cycle of your adventure trip in Ireland along the shores of Killary Fjord to the little village of Leenane nestled at the head of the fjord. Included in your package is a 1.5 hr cruise to the mouth of the fjord aboard the Connemara Lady catamaran. It includes commentary on the history, geography and people of this dramatic area. Following your cruise, you will cycle through another steep-sided and beautiful valley, the Inagh Valley, to your next accommodation at Lough Inagh Lodge. This country house hotel rests on the shores of Lough Inagh, one of Connemara's most spectacular lakes, and is surrounded by the majestic Maamturk and Twelve Bens mountain ranges on all sides. It offers a peaceful haven and all the comforts and pleasures of an elegant, modern hotel in an old-world atmosphere. Lough Inagh is also perfectly placed for you to take advantage of several extra outdoor pursuits and activities like hill walking or fly-fishing!

Distance:

30 km

On day three, your journey will take you to the Renvyle Peninsula where you will spend the next two nights. The Renvyle peninsula juts out into the Atlantic Ocean and is peppered with archaeological sites, historical ruins and white-sand beaches. It is a perfect place to meander quiet country roads at a gentle pace. Renvyle House Hotel, where you will stay, is an historic country house hotel, situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel is located on 150 acres, which include a private lake, a beach, woodlands, gardens and numerous activities on site. It is an award-winning hotel for hospitality, with a warm welcome for every guest, delicious food and comfortable bedrooms.

Distance:

25 km

Today you can choose to have a rest day to enjoy the facilities and extensive grounds of Renvyle House Hotel, or you can set off to explore the local area. Two world-class visitor experiences nearby include the Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey & Gardens. To visit either of these you will return to the village of Letterfrack at the gateway to the Renvyle Peninsula. The Connemara National Park is accessed in the village and covers some 2,957 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bog, heaths, grasslands and woodlands. There are four looped walking trails, each of which can be accessed from the visitor centre. From Letterfrack village you can cycle the short distance to reach Kylemore Abbey. This Gothic lakeside castle has a long and fascinating history and is also the site of an award-winning garden. The six-acre Victorian walled garden at Kylemore was created by Mitchell Henry in tandem with the building of Kylemore Castle in 1867.

Today you will cycle to Clifden, known locally as the 'Capital of Connemara', to your accommodation at the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel. There are various route options available, the shortest being 25km direct to the hotel. Should you wish to explore the famous Sky Road, offering you sweeping views over the Atlantic and the off-shore islands, it is an extra 12km, and well worth the effort! The Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, where you will spend the night, is situated in its own private grounds surrounded by trees and hills and with views of the sea. This historical Castle welcomes guests with a warmly lit entrance hall and crackling open fires making you feel instantly relaxed. It may seem removed from the world, but it is still only a 5-minute walk from the bustling town of Clifden, where you can enjoy interesting craft shops, art galleries and traditional pubs – the perfect place to strike up a conversation with a few local characters!

Distance:

25 / 37 km

Today you will begin by cycling to the coastal village of Ballyconneely. Here you can visit the acclaimed Connemara Smokehouse, which specialises in wild and organic salmon, smoked and marinated. Afterwards you will continue your journey to Roundstone, a scenic fishing village in South Connemara, famous through the work of many well-known painters attracted by its situation. From Roundstone you will complete today’s cycle loop to your final accommodation at Screebe House. For a shorter route, take the ‘Bog Road’ - a unique unspoiled area of native peat land which hosts several rare plants.  Enjoy this change of  sceenery ! Enjoy South Connemara.

Distance:

35km via Roundstone / 20km via 'Bog Road'

Your transfer is included to Galway, Westport or Knock Airport for your onward journey.

We had a 12 day trip to Ireland all arranged by Connemara Adventure. Our experience was magical. Ireland is beautiful. Irmi and Cecile organized the entire trip. We stayed in beautiful castles and hotels. We biked for 4 of the days and everything was planned perfectly. We highly recommend using Connemara Adventure Tours for biking, hiking and just visiting. This was our second tour with Connemara Adventure Tours and we would book with them again, which is a testament to the team and location.
We booked a customised luxury e-biking tour revisiting a couple of hotels we’d particularly liked previously, both Rosleague in Letterfrack and Lough Inagh Lodge did not disappoint. Ashford Castle in Cong was another world of luxury!

During the planning, the exchange with Lorene from Ireland was very supportive, so that we were able to plan very individually and experienced an unforgettable trip. Thank you!
